Described as “Post-Post-Post Punk” and “Skuzz Rock” by fans and enemies alike, Big Fat Head is a 4-6 piece band of Ohioans consumed by sin.
The first Big Fat Head song was penned by Nate Wilder during a weekend in jail a week before graduating high school. The project debuted online in 2018 as a way to free space off of a hard drive. Though mostly instrumental demos, the first release titled “Rough Cuts”, featured 23 songs in a variety of genres, ranging from indie rock to trip-hop, with a dash of dream pop, even teasing elements of post-punk.
Later, during the pandemic, Wilder utilized the empty rooms in his bedbug-ridden house to record “Digital Citizen”, a full-length album of noise-polluted pop, showcasing an eclectic range of tones, songwriting styles, and absurd lyrics. Topics and themes include: bloodline, blood-lust, laziness, emptiness, and patriotism, among other silver-spoon problems. Some instrumental performances were borrowed on a few tracks, but it wasn’t until Olivia Stefanoff was recruited for vocals that the two began practicing together and found support from Clean Demon Records for a release in fall of 2021.
Wilder’s philosophy on the live band was to gather close friends, write simple songs, and play instruments that were not of second nature to inspire others to do the same. Jordan Latas was recruited for lead guitar, as the pair had formed a band, “Free Grass”, in high school, as well as “The Wastemen” later at Uni. Lorenzo Fava, who had at one point replaced Latas in “The Wastemen”, was recruited for percussion. Felicity Gunn, who had attended many of “The Wastemen” shows and rehearsals, was recruited for keyboards. Stefanoff picked up bass duties, with Wilder typically on rhythm guitar. In 6 months, the band performed throughout Ohio and recorded the “Villain Pop” EP, debuting the live-band sound that had culminated. The EP emphasized darker themes and featured more intelligible, honest lyrics, with a focus on confronting identity and ego.
Shortly there-after, Latas and Wilder were re-introduced to Stanic Russ, whose band “The Comos” they had played with years prior, while Gunn and Russ were reunited as elementary school alumni. Russ was recruited on several occasions to fill in for Fava, gradually replacing him. Hence, before Villain Pop was released, the band’s sound had changed once again, and they began working on another recorded project; “Bobo Rising”. This album was intended to contrast all prior recordings, with more intention set to the production and more generally positive and simple lyrics.
During the next two years the group embarked on three ten-date tours and worked with John Hoffman to overdub and mix the record in a Masonic Temple. In the course of this, Wilder and Stefanoff worked with Dave Rippyman on the “PP & NEMO EP #1”, which included an accompanying music video directed by Perry Finley for the single, “Suburban Villain”. When the full band was unavailable, remaining members of the group would occasionally play sets in the style of the EP with a minimalist drum kit, bass synthesizer and percussive guitar under varying aliases. From this, “PP & Nemo” became an alter-ego of sorts - rock-n-roll scene junkies with enormous, all-too-American voids in their souls - and the music reflected this attitude.
Finally, in Summer 2024, Bobo Rising was released followed by an international tour in the fall. Just a week after returning home, Gunn left the group while the band returned to the studio with Hoffman to record their forthcoming LP, "Global Voyeur". The band spent the year on the record with Hoffman, whilst quietly starting two more LPs, one the next-next Big Fat Head record, one again under the PP and Nemo alias. In November 2025, they released the "Mind Your Head" EP with accompanying music video for "Kicking My Own Ass" produced by Lemonpulp Studios, debuting a new sound and direction along with new member Henry Ross on Saxophone.
In this short time, Big Fat Head has shared the stage with notable acts such as: They Are Gutting A Body Of Water, Being Dead, Sweeping Promises, Wishy, Bnny, GOON, Speedy Ortiz, Lewsberg, The Nude Party, Golomb, & more.
